The Tin Hut

The Tin Hut, Gartly, continues to thrive and expand its range of artistic enterprises.

The Tin Hut Sessions regularly attract up to 20 amateur performers and a similar size audience. Regular concerts feature bluegrass groups such as the Wilders, the Wiyos and the Hot Seats and Scottish performers including Michael Marra, Dick Gaughan and Malinky. Bookings for 2011 include small pipes maestro Fred Morrison and Seattle duo Cahelen Morrison and Eli West. Concerts regularly sell out and bands queue up to play the quirky venue.

Last year we experimented with classical music in the form of the Isla Trio from London, who proved to be wildly popular, receiving as noisily enthusiastic a reception as any bluegrass band — to the evident surprise and delight of the musicians. 2011 plans include classical guitarist, Richard Durrant, alias the Guitar Whisperer.

Food has always featured strongly in the Tin Hut's artistic portfolio and the Tin Hut Supper, which allows a local chef to show off his skills, will once again form the grand finale of the Huntly Hairst Festival of Food and Farming.

The Tin Hut

New in 2010 but expected to be a regular annual event, was Art in the Hut which allowed amateur and professional artists from Strathbogie to exhibit and sell their art. Standards were exceptionally high with hundreds of pounds of sales made on the day. The first Craft in the Hut took place in April, when a number of local craft workers demonstrated their skills and sold their works.

With music, food, art and craft already in evidence we can only imagine where the Tin Hut will go in 2011.
