Summer 2012

Bennachie Art and Crafts Appreciation Society

(BACAS)

Since 2008, members of the Bennachie Art and Crafts Appreciation Society have enjoyed involvement in a variety of inspiring and informative talks, demonstrations and discussions at our monthly meetings by invited artists. It has proved to be great fun being part of such a lively and diverse group, which was started by Olga Rattray as a meeting place for individuals who appreciate any form of visual arts or crafts, either as a spectator or an aspiring artist.

As an example of our diverse programme, during the summertime we might visit Open Gardens for inspiration and sheer enjoyment of the colourful displays, members may be sketching, taking photographs or just enjoying relaxing in splendid surroundings. A recent stunning experience was our visit to Migvie Church with its very special ambience and wonderful stained glass windows. Over the years, talks and demonstrations have included painting, floral art, photography, woodwork, antique clocks, Celtic art, standing stones and circles, stained glass and more. We are often encouraged to have a go ourselves at a new craft with hilarious consequences, but this can be also quite stimulating and inspiring.

BACAS holds an annual Art Exhibition every October in Oldmeldrum Town Hall where you are welcome to view our work.

We like to think the society provides something of interest for adults of all ages and abilities with an interest in visual arts. Once again, the committee has set up another interesting programme for 2012/13, which should prove stimulating and challenging to all members. If you are interested in joining us, either as a visitor or a member, a warm welcome awaits you.

Bennachie Arts and Crafts Appreciation Society holds its meeting on the last Tuesday of the month in the Catholic Church Hall, North Street, Inverurie from 7.15pm–9pm.

More details can be obtained from BACAS Secretary Anne Dunderdale (01467 620842) or Committee Member Patricia White (01467 632049).
